Simon is Head Teacher at St Leonard’s Church of England Primary School in Streatham, London. With over 30 years teaching experience, including 15 years as head teacher at St Leonard’s, he has extensive experience within the primary phase. Simon led the school through a phased expansion of the school over seven years, which included a demolition and new-build project. As such, his management experience matches his extensive leadership skills. A passionate supporter of a broad curriculum which has the expressive arts as part of its core, Simon has been keen to ensure that assessment is developed appropriately for all subjects and is not over reliant on testing.
A former school inspector, Simon now wishes to provide school improvement support, mentoring, coaching and leadership development training. This will be his main focus when he leaves his current role as head teacher in the summer of 2026.
Simon, who first became aware of Leadership Matters in 2016, has written the book, “Leave A Light On – Why Your Leadership Matters”, which is the primary school case study for Leadership Matters. Simon is an accredited coach and trainer in Andy Buck’s BASIC Coaching method. He is also an experienced mentor for new head teachers. Away from teaching, his life can be summed up as family, football, music and Italy!
Based in London, and happy to travel further afield from September 2026, Simon would love to hear from you if you think that he could be able to assist you with your personal leadership development, the development of your leadership team or with wider school support.
