About

Hayley

Hayley Dunn is a business leadership specialist, author and public speaker. She is a Policy Specialist for the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) and is a self-employed consultant providing support to schools and school leaders.

Hayley’s background includes public and private sector finance and accounting. She is an ACCA qualified accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of School Business Leadership (ISBL). She has worked her way up, including roles working in local authority finance, as a school business manager in a large maintained school in an area of high deprivation and as a finance director of multi-academy trust.

It was because of her experiences as a school business manager, that Hayley wrote her debut book “The School Business Manager’s Handbook”. A finalist in the 2019 Business Book Awards, it is considered a leading resource for school business professionals and aspiring school business managers.

Hayley believes that leadership is about getting the best from other people and the phrase be a lamp, a lifeboat or a ladder really resonates with her. Like most school leaders her job satisfaction comes from doing a good job, helping others, being supportive and having a positive impact, that is where the phrase ‘be the change’ came from that she uses as a hashtag in social media posts, be the change that you want to see.

Recognised as an expert in the sector, Hayley contributes to guidance, thought leadership pieces, articles and blogs, including guidance papers published by ASCL and ISBL; being a judge for the National School Awards, assessor of ISBL Fellowship applications and many feature pieces in media publications, including Primary Leaders, Schools Week, Education Executive, FundEd and SecEd.
