Chris is a leader, trainer and consultant with over 30 years of experience in education. Previously as a teacher for 18 years, he was a successful Head of Physical Education and then went on to become a Teaching and Learning consultant for Somerset Local Authority. He was a senior leader in a successful all-through 3 – 16 school for 7 years and was also the only associate teaching trainer with Ginnis Training Ltd – an education consultancy company led by the late, great Paul Ginnis, author of The Teachers’ Toolkit. He now runs his own consultancy business, TLC Education Services Ltd, alongside being ‘Head of Staff Development’ for Bridgwater and Taunton College Trust; a 2-19 MAT comprising 8 schools across Somerset.
Chris is also the senior SLE for North Somerset Teaching Alliance and has now worked in over 500 Schools, Academies & Colleges across England and Wales.
Significant improvements to practice and results are achieved through his partnerships with schools, individuals, departments and leadership teams. His work is focused solely on school improvement; mainly based in Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 although in his role as Head of Staff development in a 2-19 MAT he also supports teachers in EYFS and KS1. He has also been part of several teams that have taken schools out of unfavourable categories to secure good judgements in inspections.
His aim is to help schools, academies, colleges, organisations and teachers translate evidence based and inspiring ideas about teaching and learning into effective practice by providing lively and interactive training and pragmatic and focused consultancy. He engages frequently in long term consultancy, focusing on issues ranging from the quality of teaching, to the nature of learning, staff development, appraisal, behaviour management, middle leadership, mentoring and coaching.
